GODLY ENDING

 

“Better is the end of a thing than the beginning thereof: and the patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit – Ecclesiastes 7:8.”

 

Everything that has beginning must surely have an end. When God started His work in the beginning, while the first day's works were fulfilled, the seventh day was for rest. It does not mean God stopped working because He is still working even till now rather, He is passing an instruction to us that there is beginning and ending to everything done.

 

Today, as we consider the message God has for us, it is necessary to remind both the sinners and the saints that surely there IS AN END. Let the wicked and the righteous have it at the back, front and middle of their mind that there is an end. Oh wicked soul, an end will surely come. Are you prepared for it? Obedient servant, there is a day when an end shall come to this toiling and these works. Are you ready for it? This is not the main message before us though. This is either to comfort or stir up our Spirit as teh case may be.

 

Men and brethren, the reason for today admonition is embedded in knowing whether an end is of God or not. We have heard stories. We have seen events playing out to our faces. There are different occasions which we witnessed about the rise and fall of men. Many of us are witnesses to the grace to grass or grass to grace of kingdoms and dominions. We have seen governments come and gone. Emperors had risen and long forgotten. Generations are coming and going. The vast number of men are not considering their end. Oh Lord, help us that we may apply our heart unto Your instruction written concerning the end of all men –

“O that there were such an heart in them, that they would fear me, and keep all my commandments always, that it might be well with them, and with their children for ever! – Deut. 5:29.”

 

Perhaps by the reason of this letter, you heart has been awakened to know and consider your present state and your latter end. Are there questions arising in your heart about what your end would look like? If this is your present dilemma or thought, it is wise for us all to give heed to some signs to watch out for to determine what an shall be.

 

First, when the beginning seems to be better than the end, it is not from God. In fact, it is a sure way to identify the ungodly –

“Let their way be dark and slippery… - Ps. 35:6.”

When the legacy of Haman the enemy of the Jews was weighed, his friends summarised it thus –

“…Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai be of the seed of the Jews, before whom thou hast begun to fall, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him – Esther 6:13.”

 

On the other hand, when the end is better than the beginning, it is the plan, purpose and mind of God. This is the way of the godly which God already carved out for him. Though the road may be rough and the path be crooked at some point, nevertheless, the end shall be better. It is written in the book of Psalms that –

“Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace – Psalms 37:37.”

The account of the upright man, Job is fitted for this -

"So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning:... - Job 42:12."

 

When the Lord Jesus Christ was at the wedding in Cana, he allowed their wine to be exhausted before bringing miracle into the seen. The governor of the feast gave a good remark for saying –

“…Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now – Jn. 2:10.”

 

Friends, this is God’s way for all men: to make their end better. Sadly, there is another agent and adversary whose purpose is not in agreement. The agent is sin and the adversary is the devil. The end which God has for all His people of eternal life. Whereas the end which the devil has for all his own is death and lake of fire. Listen whatever your case is presently, it is likened to a beginning. If you walk in the way of God, your end shall be better than your present beginning. But if you follow the dictates of the devil, the end is torment and whatever your state is now it is just the beginning and the end is worse than this your present moment. Do you desire a godly or ungodly end? Better or bitter ending? Choose the way of Christ Jesus. He has the better and best ending for you. This is the counsel of the Lord for you.
