DECEITFULNESS OF RICHES – I

Thank God for He alone is rich in mercy. He is so full of it – The Merciful! Hallelujah! It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed. I hope you know this. “…He hath done all things well…” this was the testimony of the people when they saw the mighty works, miracles and signs wrought by Jesus, the Messiah. Our testimonies too should not be different from theirs in that, to us, “He hath made everything beautiful in His time…” Isn’t it, people of God? To everyone of us, God has proved Himself countless number of times that, His mercy endures forever and His Truth from everlasting to everlasting. Giving glory to God the Father is to be our lifestyle, our food, our breath, our purpose. In God we boast all the day long, and praise His name for ever. He saves and delivers us from our enemies and put them to shame that hated us. This was not achieved by our strength, neither by our might but the right hand of God and His truth delivers us always. We ought to declare His majesty.

WILT THOU SET THINE EYES UPON THAT WHICH IS NOT? FOR RICHES CERTAINLY MAKE THEMSELVES WINGS; THEY FLY AWAY AS AN EAGLE TOWARD HEAVEN – Proverbs 23:5

Let the rich think upon this that, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” Tell them not to be proud or puffed up by the reason of their wealth. Also, tell it to the poor that, ”The rich and poor meet together: the LORD is the maker of them all, “time and chance happened to them both” and that, “For ye know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that, though He was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, that ye through his poverty might be rich.” Haven’t we heard about some rich men that ended in abject poverty? Oh, don’t mind them. They were only rich they were not wealthy that was why? Alas! Don’t think that way. Riches are deceitful. Others might be of the opinion that, they were not wise that was why they ended poor. Brethren, don’t be deceived! It could not be clearer than it is stated above that, riches fly away. Anything, I repeat, anything can affect the state of wealth of any person physically spiritually – government policies inclusive. These factors are responsible to the pitiful state of “once upon a time rich man.” Only God sustains wealth and riches.

You are a rich man, you are a rich woman…Oh, brother you are on top of it and feeling like on top of the world due to your state of wealth. You buy whatever you like at anytime, at anywhere in the world. You eat breakfast in US. Off you go to UK for lunch and your desire for dinner is satisfied in China. You have loads of accolades, collections of wrist watches, fleet of cars, hundreds of wardrobes full of clothes (don’t mind the exaggeration). Your children attend the best schools, your wife is well respected because of “CLASS” as in your class you know. In your clan and family, nothing happens without your permission. With all these, you think nothing is difficult for you. You are among the people who believe that, “MONEY DOES ALL THINGS.” That is part of the deceitfulness of riches we are talking about. You travel to anywhere even the farthest part of the world (including the space) is at your fingertips. With all these, you think “MONEY ANSWERETH ALL THINGS!” Oh, you even have biblical references for your claim. You have been deceived. Your wealth and riches deceived you! Just because you fly in the fastest aircraft (rocket, jets) into the uttermost part of the universe, you think you can get to heaven with your riches. You have been deceived.

A MAN TO WHOM GOD HATH GIVEN RICHES, WEALTH, AND HONOUR, SO THAT HE WANTETH NOTHING FOR HIS SOUL OF ALL THAT HE DESIRETH, YET GOD GIVETH HIM NOT POWER TO EAT THEREOF, BUT A STRANGER EATETH IT: THIS IS VANITY, AND IT IS AN EVIL DISEASE – Ecclesiastes 6:2

Most of these prominent men – men of influence and affluence [I call them men of TIMBER and CALIPER], died without having any assurance of leaving anything worth pointing to as inheritance to their children. You think they aren’t wise? Please, think again. LIFE IS NOT FAIR has always been the conclusion of many who found themselves in this state. Life isn’t fair or they didn’t live fairly in life? They ended up being deceived – would YOU love to end like them? I guess, you won’t. There are millions of people in the world that live daily without the knowledge of God but rich and because of their riches they think they don’t need God. Riches deceived them. They concluded they needed or wanted nothing! What an indecisive conclusion, Haba! You hear them boast of their wealth that, “as long as I have this and that, I can do this and that, in fact I can do all things.” Theirs is no longer “WITH GOD ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE.” They now say with confidence, “WITH MY WEALTH AND MONEY, I CAN DO ALL THINGS.” Their riches deceived them!

For the sake of time, let’s continue tomorrow by God’s grace but before then, have you realized the present state of the world? We just want to have more. More of what? I don’t know. More, more and more, like death, the grave; the barren womb; the earth that is not filled with water; and the fire, we are never satisfied neither do we say “IT IS ENOUGH!” Like Solomon we do say, “And whatsoever mine eyes desired I kept not from them, I withheld not my heart from any joy; for my heart rejoiced in all my labour: and this was my portion of all my labour.” The end of the testimony might be VANITY UPON VANITY. But before then, let us repent. If this is the state of our mind towards riches and wealth then most assuredly we have been deceived by them. Do you understand? If we don’t understand this my now, then it means, “The secret things belong unto the LORD our God...” With the whole of wealth and riches in our possession, if we still find it hard or rather impossible to render help to the poor, then we have been deceived by our riches. Think upon this, “…whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.”

NOW THAT YOU KNOW Know what you asked? That's; Salvation comes of the Lord and not by any form of fretting or good works, why then don't you go to Him for yours. A delay is too deadly a time to waste in this case. I'm also convinced you know by now that Jesus is coming. Yes, you have this conviction in your heart. Full of UPs and DOWNs: Do you believe? The above stated theory is believed to have crept into us that we've concluded without questions. The postulation has been adopted into every activities full of hurly-burly. In people's tittle-tattle kind of or way of things, this theorem has been concessional.
