MADE FAT - I

 MADE FAT

We are grateful once again to God Almighty for His goodness and wonderful works towards us. How marvelous are Thy deeds, Heavenly Father! We are to cultivate the habit and attitude of praising God at all times by the help of the Holy Spirit. It is for our own good when we live to worship and adore God and exalt His Name. But it is a pity that, there are some who feel uncomfortable calling the name of God among their friends and in the public. Saying a word of prayer over their meals before eating – to call the name of Jesus becomes a difficult task for them. Why? We are to be proud of our Heavenly Father. We have the best Dad in the world. Children of God, let us tell the world about our Father and in turn, we should tell the world to our Father.

WHEREFORE KICK YE AT MY SACRIFICE AND AT MINE OFFERING, WHICH I HAVE COMMANDED IN MY HABITATION; AND HONOUREST THY SONS ABOVE ME, TO MAKE YOURSELVES FAT WITH THE CHIEFEST OF ALL THE OFFERINGS OF ISRAEL MY PEOPLE? – 1Samuel 2:29.

What a sharp contrast this is! We discussed “REST IN THE LORD” previously and now we are to take caution with this “MADE FAT.” It follows this order that, we are not half tempted compared to when we are at rest. We are not half deceived or soon driven by the wind of complacency as to when we are in peaceful state. Most of the defeats soldiers suffered and the most dreadful of them all is not mostly when they are at war. It is when they are at rest. When armours had been thrown aside and when merriments and celebration become the order of the day. It is a period when collops of fat would cover the flesh and the body all over the neck too and not able to lift their body as it should have been. Oh see how the arrows pierces through the heart. It is in this period, fats replace muscles, laxity replace discipline and idleness takes the place of hardwork. It is a period where even the most valiant and skillful soldier is vulnerable and susceptible to various forms of attack.

What are we driving at today? It is time to take heed. Learn from the lifestyle and history of priest Eli and his family. Apart from his children being rebellious and belials, another thing came up and that was, the man had made himself fat with the sacrifices of God’s people. What does that mean? It was to him a time of dizziness instead of being dutiful. Old age partly contributed to it though. When God gives rest from trouble and affliction, it is such a pathetic state that the recipients and beneficiaries of His rest forget Him and exalt other things and people above God. Beloved, beware lest we are caught in the same web. What has the Lord done for us that we have turned our back on Him as we speak. He has taken hunger away from our tents and fed us with meat and bread sufficient for us. Is it now the time to turn our back on Him? NO! Not at all!

Do you remember those days you sought for God’s help concerning your health? Kindly recollect, we beg of you. You cannot forget that scenario too soon. How about when you called on Him day and night concerning the court case and the implication/conspiracy in your working place? If you would still think a little further, you could see the pictorial scenes of the past events in your family when there was none to cry to for help but God? They were the best days because you sought for God. Those days you would not even eat or drink until you have things settled and be at peace. But now that God has healed you and has given you good health, now that He saved and delivered you from the court case(s) and the conspiracies – you go clubbing; partying from one place to another. Everyday to you is holiday and celebration but the God who saved you from all those trials is now a “Strange Being” to you. When your life was on the line, He saved you but now you have no memory to retain the smallest of His goodness. This word is for you. You have been made fat with God’s mercies and goodness to an extent of forgetting Him. Ah! What is this which you have done? Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned?

When your child was sick, you called on Jesus. He heard and saved him/her. When you were kidnapped, He came to your rescue when you cried to Him. Remember when you went for that promotional exams? You knew you didn’t do well not to talk of being promoted to another level. Yet, when you called on God for help, He did just that. Now, you have “class” and you move along with men and women of affluence but you have forgotten that same God that helped you. You drink and eat expensive wines and costly delicacies respectively. Does it mean that you have forgotten God so soon having made you fat with His lovingkindness and favour? Why have you done this to your Maker? It does not cost Him anything to erase you off. You know?

Basically, we have dedicated this to the believers the next part will be to the unbelievers. Oh man of God! We are talking to you also. The people of God whom you prayed for are now showering goodies and gifts on you; (gifts of cars, houses, food stuffs and other good things). You have forgotten the days of your fast and hours of prayers. Those days, you remember? All night prayer and all day waiting on God for response. But now, you have been made fat. You no longer wait on God for instruction and direction. Your wisdom teaches you and your head directs your steps. Ah! Why? Let this be known to you that, God is calling you to repentance. Return to your first love. Return! Return!! Return!!!

CAUTION GREETINGS TO US ALL
Returning Week Ahead!
