SUBMISSION


 

“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you – James 4:7.”

 

Though man was created to depend on God from the beginning. True, he was created to be as God in this world too just as we have it written in the book of Psalms that –

“The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD'S: but the earth hath he given to the children of men – Ps. 115:16.”
Also, it is true that God gave man dominion over all He created as far as earth (sky, land and sea) is concerned. Nevertheless, it is the good will of God to make man submit under and to Him. Well, man has not always known the way of submission ever since then because of the authority given to him to exercise and perform certain duties as it were.

 

May what God has given to us to be blessing not become the reason we will rise against Him in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

 

As much as man does not want to submit to God after the fall because he could not please God, it is also in man to make his fellow to worship and submit to him. I believe this is the reason for the "servant-maid-slave" thing. Worse still for man, God’s dealing is so glaring and apparent. When a man does not want to submit to or serve God, such a person will be in the position or placed under the condition to do less, that is, serve or submit to what is less than God. And the irony of the matter is that, you tend to become like whom /what you submit to in thought pattern and actions.

 

Submission is power. Humility is power. How do I mean? It makes one to have the backing and the support of the one whom you submit to. Alas, not all kinds of humility are power. Not all kinds of submission are to be reckoned as power. The one to whom we submit determines the degree of power. God has all power. You should know what submitting to Him means.

 

Those who are submitting to woods, stones, irons, and works of vanity – things that are less than nothing and vanity altogether, they automatically bring themselves lower on the cadre of authority. The only submission that gives power and promotion over the works of the devil and wickedness is the submission unto God. Hearken to the word of God. We are charged to submit ourselves unto God. It is after this we shall be able to resist the devil and he will flee.

 

What does it mean to submit to God? The closest term to it in this age and time is said to be “surrender your life to Jesus.” To surrender is a sign of submission. And you see, the human mind and spirit is so haughty and proud that to submit to God seems to be the most difficult task ever to carry out. Whereas, it was designed to be part of the basic curriculum to be learnt.

 

On the contrary, we have men and women submitting to the devil on daily basis and are found resisting the devil. Isn’t that ridiculous? They do so in their imagination, thoughts and words. When you hear their words, their are conversations sponsored by hell. Their actions immediately expose them. They are like Rabshakeh to Sennacherib – the mouthpiece of the devil. In them, the wicked one carries his intention and purpose out.

 

Beloved, the right kind of submission that gives power is first that is directed towards God and to whomever He gave us charge to apply it. As touching family, husband and wife are commanded to submit to one another –

“…Yea, all of you be subject one to another… – 1Pet. 5:5.”
How then do we learn submission to one another when we haven’t learnt doing the same to God? The problem with submitting to one another is that, when this is done (outside the scope and command of God) to those who haven’t been taught by Christ, there is every tendency to go proud and haughty whereby bringing damnation upon the soul.

 

Here is the first and the main condition of submission – Submit to God. This covers the entirety of man – his thoughts, words, ambitions, desires, wishes, decisions, obsessions and actions. Have you submitted that plans to Him? Let us take heed lest we are wise in our own understanding.
