A PREPARED TABLE – II

“Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.– Psalms 23:5.”

Previously, we have discussed on this topic. It was based on the table God prepared for His people. This is important and very essential to our daily living. We discovered that the table God prepares is full of His blessings and it is meant for His people and not all men. Yes, God loves all men. He creates all men. Nevertheless, there are some special benefits that are reserved for His own. The table prepared was made for His children before their enemies. This means the table and the provisions it contained are not meant for all men.

Having examined the first table, it is necessary to consider the second table prepared. This form of table is that which a man made for God. Recall, the first was prepared by God for men but this is prepared by men for God. It is a table of sacrifice unto the Lord. We said earlier that the table prepared by men for God often contained sacrifices as far as the Old Testament is concerned.

Therefore, we have a text to consider today. God expects His people to render their lives as living sacrifices as we are told in the book of Romans chapter twelve, verses one and two. From the text above, there are two headings to consider. For whom is the table prepared and what the table symbolises.

This table is prepared for God. Nothing defiled or with blemish is to be offered unto Him.

“Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats – Ex. 12:5.”
If your life is to be offered on the table, would it be accepted? Examine yourself and pray the Holy Spirit to help you do so. In the scriptures, there are some people whose sacrifices were not accepted of the Lord. People like Cain, Abihu, Nadab, Annanias and Saphirra… there are reasons for their rejection. As for Cain, envy would not allow his table to be accepted. Abihu and Nadab were obstinate brothers despite several warnings. As for the husband and wife, they were covetous. These are many more are reasons some of the tables are not accepted.

The cup of the Lord and the Lord’s table are such that they must be pure and without blemish. The table can be likened to the heart of a man where all sacrifices are made. The Holy Spirit must sanctify and purge it to be a worthy one and fit for the Master’s use. Before God, is your life acceptable? How is your lifestyle and living faring in the Almighty weighing balance?

It is written –

“Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me – Hebrews 10:5.”
It is not as if God has pleasure in sacrifices or fat of rams as compared to a prepared heart ready to do and perform His will and carry out His purpose to the letter. Brethren, are you prepared for the Coming of the Lord? How prepared are you for His glorious appearing?

Let not the day of the come upon you unawares. Let it not be said of you that you aren’t found at your duty post. Before Elijah made acceptable sacrifice unto the Lord, it is written in built and repaired the altar. I beseech you by the mercies of the Lord, if the Lord must make you His bearer and custodian of His graces and power filled with the Holy Ghost, you must come praying He empowers you to be prepared for His purpose else this table is not fit for the King’s dainties.
