EAT THE WORD

“Neither have I gone back from the commandment of His lips; I have esteemed the words of His mouth more than my necessary food – Job 23:12.”

Food, as intended by God, was created to serve some purposes one of which is strength. The plants and herbs created were for food, in fact, it was written that they were good for food. It is therefore imperative that God made food for strength. For instance, in the book of first kings, it was said of Elijah that –

“And he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that meat forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God – 1Kgs. 19:8.”
We see that food is a channel of strength. Note this and mark it clearly, food is not the source of strength. It is only one of the means or channels to it [strength].

When Apostle Peter was writing about food, he noted –

“As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby – 1Pet. 2:2.”
In this case, we see that food is also a kind of requirement for growth. Milk there signifies a kind of food and what it helps to do is to enhance grow.

When the writer of Hebrews would speak about food, it was in another form. He said –

“But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil – Heb. 5:14.”
In this case, strong meat is classified by age or growth. Strong meat is not just for everybody.

When Moses was speaking to the people, what he said to them about the mind of God concerning the happenings around them is –

“…that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the LORD doth man live – Deut. 8:3.”
Later, we discovered it was affirmed and quoted by Christ Jesus – “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.” So, in this case we see that THE WORD of God is equated to food. However, the excellency of The Word of God to that of food is that The Word gives life to those who have Him. Mark this again, kick if you like but it is the truth; food does not give life. Food cannot give life. The Word of God gives life.

Just as it is said or compared between money and wisdom in the book of Ecclesiastes –

“For wisdom is a defence, and money is a defence: but the excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom giveth life to them that have it – Ecc. 7:12.”
This is directly applicable to draw comparison between the Word of God and food. The Word of God gives strength, and food gives strength: but the excellency of the Word of God is that He gives life to them that have Him.

From the text chosen for today, Job said he esteemed the word from God’s mouth than his necessary food. This tells us that he fed on the word of God much more than he would of food. Brethren, the word of God should be to us as a food. We are to feed on the word. We must have our life sustained by the word of God. We are admonished to have the word of Christ in us richly in all wisdom. By His word, we have strength, growth and life.

Man shall not live by bread alone. This tells us that food alone cannot sustain us. Food doesn’t cure sickness. I hope you know food cannot make a man rich. Again, having gotten to the final height, food cannot increase the height of man with one cubit. Food is limited that all the scriptures have to say. But as for the word of God, there is nothing impossible. Feed on the word. The potency of the Word cannot be overemphasized. Most and all the healing Jesus Christ performed took place by word. Again, the Word of God is power and powerful. Who is the most powerful man on earth? The man who feeds on the Word. Who is the weakest? The one who has not the word at all. Without the word, there is no life.

WORD GREETINGS
