THE WOES OF IDOLATRY – III

“They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not: - Psalms 115:5.”

It is wickedness to serve other gods. Why would a man turn from the Most Merciful, Gracious, Compassionate and Loving Father only to turn to the one whose mission is to steal, kill and destroy? I know must people will say it is because of ignorance or foolishness. This is more than foolishness or ignorance. It is wickedness. An undiluted one at that. And you see, because this is wickedness, there are woes attached to being wicked such as  no peace –

“There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked – Is. 48:22.”
There is another in Psalms 7:11, the anger of God; –
“God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.”

There is no peace for the wicked. Since it is the wicked that yields to idolatry, one of the woes is no peace. Ah! It is a fearful thing to be in a state of no peace. A state of restlessness and chaos, a state of pandemonium and unrest. A state of torment and trouble. More so, no peace with man, no peace with yourself and worse still no peace with God. That is hell. Have you been told about hell? The hell of hells is when God takes away a man’s peace. Tell me and show me one man or woman who is idolatrous whom God gives peace. If you find one now, I trust God to make you see his or her miseries. They are more than could be numbered.

Jesus Christ is called the Prince of Peace – Is. 9:6, right? Yes, He is. And God is known and referred to as the God of Peace – Rom. 16:20. Isn’t it? Sure, He is. But when a man turns away from the Prince of peace, from whence is he going to get peace? If a man turns his back on the God of peace, what shall be his portion?

Where there is no peace, be sure to have confusion enough – “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work – James 3:16.” I know someone is already asking, Mr. Man, this verse you used does not apply here. Ah! Why do you think it is not applicable? Oh, you only mean it is talking about wisdom, right? True, it is about wisdom. But even one of the attributes of true wisdom is peace –

“But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable… - James 3:17.”

Anyone who is given to idolatry is automatically signing in for confusion. If you are thinking such a man is well coordinated and that all things are going on well and organized for him. Wait and see. His or her confusion is loading. It shall come like an armed man. Suddenly, it shall come upon him. Idolatry brings confusion. Those who trust the Lord are like a flint. Their gazes and hearts are steadfastly looking unto the Lord nothing wavering. But as for those who trust on other gods, they shall have confusion enough.

This was the case of the lords of the Philistines when the Ark of the Lord was in their Camp and the Lord smote them with emerods. You see, because the Philistine had many gods, they didn’t know which one among those afflicted them with the disease. They must have been confused sacrificing to this god and the other before they finally discovered that it was from the Lord. Let us consider a man who has about five gods. If he thinks a god is angry, what do you think he will do. He would have to sacrifice to all the gods because he wouldn’t know which one is angry. Isn’t that confusion? More so, God will always send confusion to the camp of the enemies, those who follow after Balim and Ashtaroth.

The second woe is the Anger of the Lord.

“The sinners in Zion are afraid; fearfulness hath surprised the hypocrites. Who among us shall dwell with the devouring fire? who among us shall dwell with everlasting burnings? – Isaiah 33:14”
Who among us can stand the Burning and Consuming Fire? Ah! It is a fearful thing if God’s anger kindle against a man. This is the lot of those who follow after other gods. Consider this – “When he giveth quietness, who then can make trouble? and when he hideth his face, who then can behold him? whether it be done against a nation, or against a man only – Job. 34:29.” If God should hide His face, who can see it. O, repent brother. Turn from your idolatrous ways sister. Turn or burn.

Why should you perish by serving gods that have mouth but couldn’t speak, legs have they but cannot walk. Worse still, we are told that those who serve them are like them. Fear for yourself. Fear for your soul. Pity yourself. You are like what or whom you worship.
