JESUS CARES FOR THE WIDOWS
“A father of the fatherless, and a judge of the widows, is God in His holy habitation – Psalms 68:5.”
All men are God’s by creation. No man is made out of self-imagination from himself. None! God created all men. This is the reason He is known as the God of all flesh. This name is not just for title’s sake. There is more to the name thaN we could possibly think. God made it clear to us in His word that –
“Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine… - Ezk. 18:4.”This leads us into today’s topic: Jesus cares for the widows. This does not literally mean He doesn’t care for others. But we shall be concentrating on the particularity of the case before us.
God takes the position of a Judge when it comes to the
widows. He does not want anyone to cheat them. To God, it is His nature to
defend those who have no one to fight for them. He shows up for the weak,
vulnerable and those who have no might. The widows fall into this category. They
lost their husbands and some could possibly have been without child(ren). It is
also true that some of them can also be old to an extent that those with
children are forgotten by their children they gave suck to. It is true that a
woman can forget the child she gives suck to. It is equally true that the
children given suck to can also forget the woman who gave him.
From the scriptures, we see how God cared for the widows in having an allowance for them in His law. They, alongside with the fatherless, strangers are to be provided for in daily necessities. Noami was one of a kind. God didn’t just give her bread and water to sustain her. She was also given a son from the Lord through Ruth. The widow of Zarephath also enjoyed the love and care of God when Elijah was sent unto her. Jesus had to remind us that –
“…many widows were in Israel in the days of Elias, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land; But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow – Lk. 4:25-26.”Remember, it was not because of Elijah that God provided for the woman initially however true the case may be. God had provided for her before leading the man of God there -
"Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee - 1Kgs. 17:9."The word "commanded" can be said to mean "provided". So, we should not overturn the original text to mean – “it was because she gave that was why God gave to her.” True! But rather, let us say “God had given to her for her have somewhat to give.”
As the Lord lives, for as many widows who are reading this,
let it be known to you that God has you in mind. However, there is need to
acknowledge God in all things. This is the period of time you cannot afford to
be far from Him. I beseech you, if you haven’t known the Lord Jesus Christ, it
is time to come to Him now. He is capable of stopping your miseries and negative
circumstances surrounding your life. Moreover, is it not better for you to
enjoy double allocation than single? How do I mean? First as a human, God
created you, so He is committed to taking care of you. But there is limit to
that level of care. The second point is this, if you are His child by adoption
by grace and through faith in Christ Jesus, that qualifies you to becoming one
of His family members who enjoy this double privileges.
The curse of the Lord Jesus Christ is upon those who defraud the widows -
"Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows' houses... - Matt. 23:14."Listen O man, or whoever you are. Do not engage in cheating or defrauding the widows because –
“…for he is strong that executeth his word: for the day of the LORD is great and very terrible; and who can abide it? – Joel 2:11.”The widow of Nain must have been passing through a lot during the period of her trials before Jesus met her. To cut the long story short, the whole situation took another turn positively because of the presence of Christ Jesus.
This is a message to the widows today. Some of you have suffered many things from relatives, families, colleagues, friends, co-workers. There is no guarantee that it will stop if you continue to trust and put all your hope in men. Only Jesus can bring your dead situations back to life. Only Jesus can turn your mourning into joy. Only Jesus can make your mockery to stop. I pray you meet with Him today or better still that He meets with you today. Be sure to know that
"YOUR MAKER IS YOUR HUSBAND - Is. 54:5."
