LIFE OR DEATH

 

“I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live – Deuteronomy 30:19.”

 

Since the beginning, this world has been in twos – heaven and earth, light and darkness, day and night, land and sea, male and female etc. This is how the world is fashioned. This possibility of options has made choice available to man. And he has been in the business of choosing one thing or the other.

 

The matter of choice is such that one is to be taken while the others are left. However, once the choice is made, the person is left to face the consequences of their actions. The same is applicable to the word of God sent to us today. Here we see God speaking to His people by the mouth of His servant that there is life and death set before them. He, therefore, admonished them to choose one and leave off the other. The one to be chosen is the will of God for us.

 

Brethren, evil abound in this world. This world is said to be the abode of wickedness according to 1Jn. 5:19 –

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”

Also, it is the Father’s good pleasure that we shine as light in the world –

“That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world – Php. 2:15.”

This has separated the world into two – the righteous and the wicked.

 

More so, the plan of the devil is to steal, kill and destroy while the Lord Jesus’ aim is to give life. That has separated the world into two again – the part and portion for the devil unto death and the remnant and the elects of Christ unto life. Now, it is to whom man gives himself he is made servant to obey. Those who have chosen the way of the thief, killer and destroyer shall have death. There is no other answer to that – you follow the devil; he pays you with death. Isn’t that the wages he promised those who are following him?

 

There are instances in the scriptures where people ended up having death as their lot. Envy, hatred and anger would not allow Cain to have a good course. He was cursed. Indeed, the scripture is true that says –

“…wrath killeth the foolish man, and envy slayeth the silly one – Job 5:2.”

Liars had death also. The man who came to David saying he had killed Saul believing to receive a form of favour from the anointed of the Lord received death for his reward. They that follow the legacy of the devil shall have death by and large. Trusting in the counsels and words of Satan is like trusting in the staff of broken reed whereon if a man leans, it shall go into his hand and pierce it, so is the devil to all that trust in him.

 

On the other hand, we have the King of glory, the Creator and Giver of life. In Him was light and the Light was the light of men and the light shineth in darkness and darkness comprehended it not. The Lord is our Lawgiver. He is the Judge. His thoughts are of peace and not of evil. He is willingly to give life unto those that will come to Him by Christ Jesus. And there are cases where people saved their soul from destruction simply by following the word of God. God is owner of life. He breathed into man in the beginning and man became a living soul. He has given us His command, will, purpose, mind, intent and pleasure. His will for us is to have life. How? By believing in the Lord Jesus –

“He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life – 1Jn. 5:12.”

Desirest thou life? Come to Jesus today. Come to Jesus now!

 

However, it is a known fact that men love darkness more than life. They prefer the works of death to that of life. The crooked way is chosen while the straight is despised and mocked. Why? Jesus told us about the condemnation which would come into the world –

“And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil – Jn. 3:19.”

Wickedness thrives in darkness. Righteousness thrives in light. Death is to darkness and Life is to Light.

 

Friends, it is upon us this day to quickly understand where we fit. Death is always the result of disobeying God while life on the other hand has always been the reward for obeying Him. Now, it is natural for man to disobey God. This places him in the category of death. To have life, it is the effectual workings of the Spirit of God in man. This must be the prayer of everyone in whose heart the thirst, hunger and yearning for life are found.

 

PRAYER: Father, I choose life this day. Christ Jesus, let Your life be abundantly supplied unto me
