THE WAYS OF MAN

“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God – Luke 16:15.”

Man was created in the image of God and His likeness. It pleased the Lord in the beginning to create man so. He was perfect (very good) in the day he was made. However, the situation changed the moment the tempter and the adversary of man came to deceive in the place where God placed them (man) in the garden. After this event, there was a huge gap between God and man. Just the way Abraham responded to the rich man –

“And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence – Lk. 16:26.”

When God saw this that, it was against His original plan for mankind, He began to implement His purpose of redemption of man from beginning –

“According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love – Eph. 1:4.”
Christ Jesus came to save the total man. On basis of this, there has been a great gulf between the race of man. The major difference is based on faith. It is written thus: -
“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned – Mk. 16:16.”
They that believe and those that believe not. The race of man that is damned and the category of man that is saved. Definitely, one should expect their ways are different. We shouldn’t expect the damned and the saved to walk in the same way.

Now, the way of the damned is different from that of God. Such people’s ways cannot please God. Their ways are different from that of God. These are people about whom the Holy Spirit spoke by the mouth of the apostle that –

“So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God – Rom. 8:8.”
This category of men is called they that are in flesh. Jesus told us about these people that –
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh… - Jn. 3:6.”
These are the people to whom God spoke expressly that “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD.” Anyone who does not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ cannot be said to have the ways of pleasantness and paths of peace.

On the other hand, there are those who believe in the Lord Jesus. They are grouped into the category of people who have the spirit of Christ Jesus. To them it is written – “when the ways of a man please God, He maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.” This is because that is teh only way that can please God. God is a Spirit. It takes spirit to please a Spirit. This is the reason those that are in the flesh cannot please God. To be led by the Spirit is what makes us His children (sons). For this reason, any man born of God is pleasant to God. Such man will delight in the law of the Lord. And in His law, he would meditate day and night.

Now, there are two ways which Christ Jesus told us about. We have the narrow way and the broad way. All men are grouped either in one or the other. As for the broad way, anything and anyone that goes in is set for destruction. It is the way of the whole world. It is the way which always seems to be right before men. It is the popular way. Even in business, relationship, worship, services, interaction with men and women, in marriage, this way appears to be the popular way. And you know what, the way of the Lord is not that which is popularly accepted. It is the narrow way Christ came to pave for us. Jesus Christ did not come to decorate the broad. The broad way remains the broad way even if it is the popes, bishops or presidents that are walking thereon. The narrow way is still the narrow and acceptable way even if it is the most wretched pauper that is found therein.

God does not approve the way of wicked because many people are on it. Neither is He going to disapprove the way of righteousness because only few are found walking therein. Listen to the counsel of God, O man, consider your ways. There is a way that seemeth right before you now, the bible says it is the way of destruction. The way of those in the flesh, those who do not believe in Christ Jesus, those who are on the broad way – it is the way of and to damnation. Alas, friends, why should you perish? Turn from walking on that way. There is another for those who have the Spirit of Christ, who believe in Him and it is the narrow way – it is the way that leads to life. Yea, it leads to eternal life. Which way for you, sir?
