BE KIND

“And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise – Luke 10:37.”

The heart and nature of the humankind, right from the time he disobeyed God, has been plagued with wickedness, violence and evil imagination. Words like pity, compassion, love, care, unity and peace are not within his radar. Why would Cain kill Abel or what could have generated into the slavery of Joseph? The summary of this is given as a question –

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? – Jer. 17:9.”

Do you know or have you asked what could have been the purpose God gave His law to Noah, unto Moses and as many that were called are going to be called by Him? Well, if we do not understand or know the whole purpose, counsel or reason behind His decision of giving such commandments, there is one reason we are to be certain and sure of, that is, to be kind to one another.

Beginning with the law He gave to Noah, we have that –

“Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man – Gen. 9:6.”
This is to instill kindness within the heart of man. You know God already gave His verdict and conclusion about the heart of man before the deluge –
“And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually – Gen. 6:5.”
The truth is, things haven’t really changed from what they used to be.

His law and commandments unto Moses are also in that line. True, they are based on love – love God and love your neighbour. So, we can also say it is hinging upon love but it has its expression through kindness. How do I really want to show I love when kindness is absent?

Recently, for those who are conversant with this daily write-up (I don’t really want to call it a devotional), you should have discovered that most of the lessons and topics are simply discussed and defined (giving definition) without stating benefits for doing so. The essence of this is to tell or show us that it suffices us to obey, believe and follow the instruction, commandment and law of God with or without benefits. Whether there are benefits or not, let us know this assuredly that obeying God is more. And without controversy, there has never been a time when obeying God or doing what He told us to do did not have benefits.

In the text above, it is kind of parable related by Jesus in a story form which we popularly refer to as the Good Samaritan. If Jesus would tell us that no man is not good –

“…Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God – Lk. 18:19”
, then note there is no good Samaritan anywhere. Why? Even our goodness at his purest form is liable to be stained with pride, self-righteousness and self-conceitedness. Nevertheless, the question of Jesus to the one who asked him at the end was –
“Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves? – Lk. 10:36.”
It was the answer the lawyer gave that Jesus commanded us on what to do. The neighbour is he that showed mercy.

Your neighbour is not your next-door friend, family or co-tenant if you are not kind to them. Your neighbour is not your family member if you are not kind to them. To whomsoever you are kind is your neighbour. There are many people in this world who are surrounded with people to whom they have not for once shown any act or expression of kindness. To be kind in the Creator’s command. For your soul’s sake be kind. For your children’s sake and for the sake of your children’s children, be kind. If you are a Christian, brother, for Christ’s sake, be kind. Oh, I beseech you for God’s Name’s sake, be kind. If you are not, at least for the fear of hell and the wrath to come, be kind. If by all these you aren’t kind, I call the heaven, earth, hell, seas and everything God has created including the angels to witness against you that thou shalt be damned and that without remedy except you repent and believe in the Lord Jesus. He will teach you meekness and kindness.
