OUR GUIDE
“For this God is our God for ever and ever: HE will be OUR GUIDE even unto death – Psalms 48:14.”
Mountain climbers or mountaineers are people who
take adventurous steps. They take pleasure in scouting for mountains. The love
they have for what they do is a passion they are driven by. Some of them might
have been doing this for historical purpose. Others could have been doing it
for archaeological reasons. Still, among these men or women, you might be able
to have few who are involved in this adventure for the sole reason of
discovery. Whatever reasons they all have to initiate and accomplish this feat,
there is something that is common to them all.And the common thing with them is
THEIR GUIDE. They dare not go ahead to get this thing done without their guide.
They dare not climb to heights without their guide. It is on this guide we
shall trust God to help us apply this to ourselves believing that He will not
leave us to ourselves but impact upon us the eternal truth in His word.
We all can be liken to mountain climbers. Life
comes in phases and there are different mountains in this life. We see this
case as a special one in the sense that these mountains come in varying sizes.
No man is expected to climb without his guide. Sadly, there are billions in the
world who have been doing so without having a guide. This has led to the death,
destruction and jeopardy of most people. How could we possibly climb to such a
great height without our guide? Impossible!
There are millions who didn’t get to the apex,
climax and top of their career because at a point in their life, career,
ministry, work, relationship or whatever God committed into their hands, they
fell headlong and bursted asunder. God designed this world in such a way that
without Him we can do nothing. That was His plan from the beginning. So, anyone
who thinks that can be bypassed must be deceiving himself or herself. Without
our guide, we can do nothing. Anything at all we venture into without Him will
lead to disappointment.
Another scenario we can liken this lesson to is
that of tourist and visitors to a particular location. Before the era of
technology of Geographic Information Science/System (GIS) such as Google maps
and the likes, whenever travelers are visiting a place (especially an unknown
place for the first time), there are people referred to as guides. They are
positioned in the territory to show the visitors around. They are specialists,
experts and very exposed in matters concerning the territory, location,
customs, tradition, culture of the people, they know the entrance and exit into
all stations. They could tell the people the historical significance of each
object, artefact and symbols. They save the travelers the stress of being
involved in some unnecessary situations and circumstances.
Just as the guide is to the mountaineers and to
the strangers or travelers, in the same and even in greater measure God is to
us. Where do we know? We are all new here even if you are hundred years old.
None of us have been here before. Or do you believe in the ideology of people
having lived here before and after their death, they later transformed and went
to another country to relive their life? Have you? I don’t believe that because
–
“And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment – Heb. 9:27.”Since none of us has been here before, the better for us to lean on the Lord God our Maker who is our guide. He knows the past, present and future of life itself not just the earth, heaven or the creatures in them. He is the Everlasting God. He knows the end from the beginning and the beginning from the end – Our Perfect Guide in all situations and for all seasons. It is our wisdom to come and surrender to Him to lead us. Using the word in Joshua –
“…come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore – Josh. 3:4.”
As the ark of covenant served as guide for the
people of Israel to lead them unto the Promised land in greater way is God to
His people. We have not gone this way before. But God knows the way and the
path. The major reason we must trust and lean on Him. It is a foolish thing to
trust and lean on our own understanding. Tell me, what do we know?
Tell me, what will you do and where will you go
when you come to die? Who is your guide? What shall you do when you come to the
swelling of Jordan? I beseech you to come to Jesus Christ today. As the
Shepherd is to the sheep, so is God to His children. Have you any guide? As a
sheep, have you a Shepherd?
Let God be your Guide and you shall have a confident
and seamless journey. Even if trials come, you shall approach them with peace
and confidence as an overcomer and one who is more than conqueror through
Christ Jesus. O man, what will you do when you come to die? Have you any Guide?
When you are at the bay of Jordan to cross the river to the celestial city, how
shall you cross? Have you any guide? Let God be your Guide now and forever.
Amen.
