BE AT PEACE

“If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men – Romans 12:18.”

A story was told about a kingdom where there was peace and serenity within its walls and among the inhabitants therein. It was full of order and decency until there was an uproar of war and uneasiness. This development displeased the King that He had to make diligent search about the origin of this. It was discovered that one of his delegates took the honour to himself to rule the people. Rebellion! Having known this, a decree was made to deal with that subject who caused the kingdom to experience such pandemonium. The culprit was found and sent on exile. Sadly, this subject and his cohorts were sent packing from this kingdom only for them to go the other kingdom which the King already gave to another one his subjects to rule. These rebels came to cause unrest.

The event narrated above is found in the account of Revelation chapter twelve. God is the King, the devil is the rebellious subject, the earth is the other kingdom and men are the other subjects to whom God gives the earth. Satan is in the earth to cause unrest and make men not to be at peace. The states or levels of peace are divided into three: Peace with God, neighbour and with oneself.

First, we must be at peace with God. There is need for this if we must make a tangible positive progress. Being at peace with God is key to becoming significant, fulfilled and perfect in the will of God. Truth be told, from the beginning after we disobeyed God, no man was at peace with Him. We all had been wayward and plunging headlong into the ocean of destruction. Glory to God for sending us His Son who was made The Propitiation for us –

“Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ – Romans 5:1.”
O man, do you desire to be at peace with God? Woman, hearken, do you thirst and long for living peaceably with God? If you answer is Yes, as I suppose, then note this clearly, without Jesus there is no peace for you. Do not think it is your righteousness that will make you be at peace with God. Righteousness is good if only it is built upon the foundation of the Lord Jesus Christ –
“And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace – James 3:18.”
Without Him there is no peace for you from and with God.

The second phase is being at peace with your neighbour. It is a lie if a man says he is at peace with God and at variance with his neighbour. This is validated by the Word of God thus:

“If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? – 1Jn. 4:20.”
When God gave us the commandment that “love your neighbour as yourself”, He didn’t classify the type or kind of neighbour. Let no one deceive us into believing that God meant those neighbours that are good and kind to us only. That term love was generalized without restrictions and boundaries confined within the coordinates of the household of faith. Are you at peace with your neighbour? Do all it takes by the grace and Spirit of God to live peaceably with all men.

The last or third on the list is being at peace with oneself. A man whose heart is condemning cannot be at peace. The guilt of some lifestyles in the past, previous unwise and dangerous actions and other evil lust of concupiscence can make a man to lose his peace. And you see, there is no wicked, saith the Lord, to the wicked. Pray and confess to God all your faults so as to have your heart sprinkled with His pure water and Holy Spirit and you shall be rid of guilt of sin and restlessness that accompanies disobedience.

PEACEABLE GREETINGS
