ENEMY OF PROGRESS I - PRIDE II

 

“But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble – James 4:6.”

Read the text above again. What progress that anyone whom God resists can make? In the voice of Eli to his sons, this was what the aged man said – “If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him?... – 1Sam. 2:25.” When a man resists you, one can find a way out from another man who is more powerful and influential than the former. But when God resists, who can deliver?

Pride is an enemy of progress. For pride Nebuchadnezzar became a beast losing his senses and his throne for seven years though his throne was preserved and restored to him thereafter. This might not be the case for others. Pride would have made Naaman to deny himself the supernatural healing God prepared for him. It was pride that caused the demise and the untimely death of that wise man called Ahithophel. Mark it, many great men and women judging from history had lost the battle of life to, through and by pride. What was the undoing of Alexander the great? Pride. At thirty-one (31), he already conquered the then known world but even at that he still cried for another world to conquer.

The Pharisees and Sadducees in Jesus’ days didn’t receive the gift of God which is eternal life by Christ Jesus because of pride. This is the case with million and billion of people in this present age for not receive the glorious gospel of Christ Jesus. Pride would make a rich may to say or ask “WHO IS GOD?” The same goes to the poor. When pride comes upon the poor, his words would be “WHAT WILL MAN DO?”

Pride has no respect for marital status. As it is to the married, so it is to the single. Many a married Vashti are still losing their crowns and thrones every time they kick against the authority of the godly man God place over them. We still have married men such as Nabal whose pride led into folly. Single men like Amon are laying death upon themselves.

This enemy called pride does not regard position and power. It can still destroy kings and make servants perish also. Herod would die if given to pride and even the most destitute man on earth won’t be spared should pride gain mastery of him.

Hearken unto the counsel of the Lord and live. Give heed to His word and ye shall have peace and life at the end. Let not pride have a place in you. The truth remains, naturally, every man has an iota of pride within. It is by the Spirit of Christ Jesus, that Spirit of meekness and lowliness that the strength and rod of pride can be broken. It by that same Spirit the stronghold of this enemy can be pulled down.

Finally, it is a terrible thing when God is resisting a man. It is a fearful through to conceive. So fearful and deadly to have God to be one’s enemy. This is because – “…the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be – Rom. 8:7.” Oh sinner, if you continue in sin, it means your pride is the cause. Definitely, you are saying, I have no need of God and what can the Most High do to me? Remember, “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall – Pro. 16:18.” Again, let this ring in you that – “God resists the proud.” Believing and surrendering to Jesus Christ is a sign of humility that can destroy the effect and power of this wicked enemy called pride.

WHAT WILL BE, WILL BE Would God that everyone be successful, but surely it has to be done, to be. I hate it when something unpleasant happens but what lacerate me the most is the comment people give as "what will be will be." This statement makes it sound as if we cannot do anything about it. I disagree for through Christ I can do all things. Brethren, if you prepare well, you will be successful, what will be will be. But if you fail to prepare, for sure your failure will find you out.
