OIL OF GLADNESS

 

“The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound – Isaiah 61:1”

Oil in the scripture symbolises anointing or it is used for such purpose “to anoint”, so is the Holy Spirit. For it is written, “

How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him – Acts. 10:38
.” Therefore, we are to consider the Oil here as metaphor for the Holy Spirit. Hence, the Spirit of Gladness.

From the text above, we see what the Spirit of gladness does. Among many functions, we have, preaching of good tidings, binding up broken-heart, proclamation of liberty and opening of prison. Without mincing words, there is no one unto whom these are performed that won’t be glad. This is to tell us that we need the Holy Spirit this year and beyond.

Beloved, this year let the Holy Spirit be your guide and stay. He will lead to the place of gladness and joy. I beseech you by the mercies of God that by the strength received of and in the Spirit, let the duties of the oil be carried out through you beginning from now. The oil which is serving purpose will surely multiply while the oil that does not serve purpose is bound to dry. It is by prayer that yours will not dry.

What must I do to maintain this oil of gladness? Is this your question? First, God gives the oil and He has what it takes to maintain and sustain it. However, as for your duties, they are highlighted in the anchor scripture above? The Spirit of God in you is earnestly eager to make you spread the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ around your corner. Quench not the spirit.

Again, see to it that your words minister grace to them that hear you. By this, you are being used a channel of binding up the wound of the brokenhearted. We live in a world where people are wounded and injured emotionally, maritally, spiritually and physically. And oil is used to bind wound as a way of mollifying it. This is what the Holy Spirit will do through you.

In addition, people are in the bondage of sins, devil and this present evil world. There is need for freedom. The Holy Spirit in you has given you the power to proclaim liberty. What more could be soothing and pleasing to a prisoner than hearing the declaration of his freedom?

Finally, brethren, spread this oil of gladness to all empty vessels around you – fill them not a few as Elisha instructed the widow. As for the reprobate and sinner, come to Jesus today, there is a oil flowing for the soul unclean. There is a oil that can break the yoke upon your neck and the burden upon your shoulder. Confess your sins and believe the Lord Jesus Christ and you shall be saved from the yoke of bitterness and condemnation today and now.

WHAT WILL BE, WILL BE Would God that everyone be successful, but surely it has to be done, to be. I hate it when something unpleasant happens but what lacerate me the most is the comment people give as "what will be will be." This statement makes it sound as if we cannot do anything about it.
