THE WOES OF IDOLATRY – I

 “Their sorrows shall be multiplied that hasten after another god: their drink offerings of blood will I not offer, nor take up their names into my lips – Psalms 16:4.”

The first commandment given to us by God is “Thou shalt have no other gods before Me – Exodus 20:3.” Have you ever asked yourself, why did God bring this in? He knows there is every possibility and tendency for man to do so. You see man, that creature called man, he always loves to try something new. You can see that in his taste, desire, pursuit and feeling. The old does not always make sense to him. As it is written in Deuteronomy 32:17 –

“They sacrificed unto devils, not to God; to gods whom they knew not, to new gods that came newly up, whom your fathers feared not.”

God knew that there were other things that would come newly which would appeal to man’s interest and pleasure. To this end, the Lord had warned us beforehand. And you see, to before warned is to before harmed. It is possible we aren’t going to be mentioning the woes of idolatry but out of necessity, we shall highlight the appealability of idolatry.

Furthermore, God is a Jealous God. He does not hide it. He speaks about it expressly. That is who He is. He cannot change or bend that nature for anything and anyone. Therefore, He gave a command – No one beside me! But you see man, the unregenerated, he does not like to get stuck to one thing or one person for too long or forever. The new appeals to man quickly more than The old except in the case of THE NEW MAN and THE OLD MAN. Other than this, it is the new always for man.

Take for instance, I am not saying development and upgrading are bad but you see, when analog computers came, people began to move towards that direction. Later, when digital arrived, there was a shift also. When it comes to buying goods and commodities, those in business are fond of showcasing dangerous and aggressive advertisements as if they are intentionally telling us that THE OLD is bad. THE NEW IS better. Get the New even if you cannot afford it.

In marriage, you see men and women perpetrating immoralities and promiscuous lifestyles which include marital unfaithfulness, cheating, adultery, etc. as a result of this phenomenon called "NEW." You ask why? Go no further, the answer is that most couples believe they needed to test the new, that they are tired of the old. The old in this case could be their spouses. This is the deception through which silly women and foolish men have been led away captives.

Come to the drug and health arena and you will weep. There were times when cigarettes, cocaine, marijuana and other products such as tobacco were used by the young and old for reaching what they supposedly called “highness.” But you see, in this dispensation, presently, the new has come and human nature automatically condemns man to trying out the new. By this when other combinations such as Colorado, codeine etc. appear to be the new, you see the increased number of subscribers and patronage. See to what degree young men on our streets have been falling unconscious and some even literally dropped dead due to heavy dosage.

The same goes to religion. Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. However, this gospel is called the Old Gospel. Humorously, the cross is now called The Old Rugged Cross, emphasis on the Old. But you see, Islam that came almost 700years later appears to be thriving. Why? Men like something new. This is one of the ways the devil uses idolatry to appeal to man. Men love to serve or have the new and forsake the Old. And when we call God, THE ANCIENT OF DAYS, what does that mean to man? To man, it means GOD is Old. So, they like to try out new gods which are no God at all. Beware of the trending New things around, idolatry is not far-fetched.

Before we continue this topic properly tomorrow, I am here to declare unto you that THE OLD JESUS is better. THE OLD GOD is still the same Living God. The Old Holy Spirit is still the Real and Authentic One. The Old Gospel is still potent, powerful and sharper still.

And now I speak by the authority of the word of God, if any man confesses a new god, whom we have not confessed, declares a new jesus, preaches a new gospel which we haven’t received of old, let such a man or woman be ACCURSED.
