GO YE

 


“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost – Matthew 28:19.”

 

The growth of the Early Church was not without the work of the Holy Spirit. More so, it is by the obedience to the instruction of the Lord Jesus Christ. He told the disciples to go teach all nations. When God wants to fulfill His purpose, He uses all kinds of instrumentality to achieve that even persecution. The Church was established in Jesrusalem. Now, there was a kind of peace because the signs and wonders took place. While the Sanhedrin were proving difficult not wanting to submit to the move of God, the multitudes of the people believed and the word of God increased. After this, there seemed to be stillness. The apostles would not move an inch outside their zone (comfort zone).

 

God in His determinate counsel had to raise an adversary against them. Yes, He used the tool of persecution to make His people obey His command. Jesus already told them to go teach all nations. But, Jerusalem is not all nations. Nevertheless, before He was received up into the cloud right before their very eyes, He also gave them last order –

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth – Acts. 1:8.”

 

So, all nations in this case means beginning in Jerusalem. That should not be their first and the last. Jerusalem was meant to be their starting point. But in their case, they already saw it as their resting place, a desired haven so to speak. Then, it pleased the Lord to use even the Sanhedrin, the priests and other people to execute and implement His intention as touching the disciples going out to preach the gospel.

 

Prominent among the people who persecuted the church was a young man called Saul. The Lord moved Him mightily to move His people unknown to him that he was being used of God to make His people obey the commandment He had bidden them. This was when the record had it thus –

“…And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles – Acts. 8:4.”

 

When this took place, the disciples who scattered abroad began to teach and preach the gospel. Thus it is written – “Therefore they that were scattered abroad went every where preaching the word – Acts. 8:4.” After this event, when you observe the order of the operations that followed, you will agree with me that it was as if the revival followed the form and precept which the Lord Jesus Christ gave. In fact, it is not as if, that was what happened. The order of events followed what Jesus said in Acts. 1:8; from Jerusalem to Judaea, to Samaria and to the uttermost part of the world. From Jerusalem, Peter already preached to the men of Judaea in Acts. 2:14 –

“…Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words…”
Then, we read that Philip was in Samaria preaching the gospel. Thereafter, he was led into the desert and into Azotus. The apostles, Paul and Barnabas, also preached from one city to another so much that by the time the book of Acts was to be concluded, the gospel had already spread up to Rome.

 

Now, hear the counsel of God unto us this day. The same command given to the apostles is binding on us. We are to go, teach all nations. Everywhere we go – whether in the place of work, market, schools, offices, etc. We are expected to obey the word of Christ spoken unto us to “Go!” How shall the people learn righteousnesss when we are not going to teach about the kingdom of God and of His Christ. It is written –

“with my soul have I desired thee in the night; yea, with my spirit within me will I seek thee early: for when thy judgments are in the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness – Is. 26:9.”

 

How shall the people in this land learn, when I am not GOING TO TEACH them of God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, sin, righteousness and Judgement. This is the question posed unto me and it is unto you too. How do we fare in this? Must God send us persecution before we GO.
