Other gods
“LORD our God, other lords beside thee have had dominion over us: but by thee only will we make mention of thy name – Isaiah 26:13.”
Presently, the legacy of Cain is being played out. Almost everything is able to control man. There is virtually nothing that cannot take the time of the man whom God created in His image. It is so sad that it has gotten to this and that it is not in man to dominate or bear rule over those things as it were. Sin has led him captive unto those things and people he should have rather been holding captive.
There are lusts warring in the members of the fallen man. Desires that aren’t screened in the word of God and ambitions which are not according to the will of God. Like it was in the days of Samson, the Philistines are again lords over God’s people. We see children of God hiding in their caves and in the rocks. As for the harvest, strangers consumed them. The land is parched and the people of the land her thirsty. The promised of God is that nothing would cast our young but it is no longer so. Does it mean that God is a liar or that He cannot keep to His word again? Nay! God is ever faithful. The fault lies before our doorstep –
“our iniquities have turned away these things, and our sins have withholden good things from us – Jer. 5:25.”Sin has brought us into captivity. In Christ Jesus, the dominion of sin over us is broken.
Oh, see with what shameful act the Philistines rejoiced and mocked when they took the ark of God to their dagon. The priests have left their sacred positions from decorating the altar and the temple to be divining lies. The people are far from the fear of the Lord. The prophets prophesy for gain and the law was given for reward. These and many more have handed us over to those upon whom we supposed to be ruling.
When the Lord has told us that none of the sicknesses of the Egyptian would come on us, why are our bodies under the pangs and torture of all forms of affliction. Men have trampled over us as though we are comfortless and without help. The words of Nehemiah are better used to explain how the present state of the people whom God promised deliverance is –
“Behold, we are servants this day, and for the land that thou gavest unto our fathers to eat the fruit thereof and the good thereof, behold, we are servants in it: And it yieldeth much increase unto the kings whom thou hast set over us because of our sins: also they have dominion over our bodies, and over our cattle, at their pleasure, and we are in great distress – Nehemiah 9:376-37.”
We know the scripture affirms that as many that believe in the Lord Jesus, to them He gave power to become sons of God. It is time to turn unto the Lord again so that He will turn unto us. It is time for the fear of the Lord to run down like a river. Of a truth, we know in returning to Him will be our confidence and salvation. For He will give us power again over serpents and scorpions and over all the powers of the enemies and nothing shall by any means hurt us.
To come off the rule and dominion of other gods, let us come humbly submitting to the government of the Lord Jesus Christ bearing His yoke upon us because of the increase of His kingdom and of peace, there shall be no end.
