THE SHINING LIGHT

“But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light – Ephesians 5:13.”

Light was the first thing God commanded into being in the beginning of creation. If we are indeed children of our Father in heaven, the first thing we must be sure of before proceeding to do anything worth doing is light. We must be fully persuaded that there must be light. This is what we must seek; and we shall have. Without light, the state of all things will still follow the pattern as they were in the beginning – empty, void and without form. It is wise for us not to begin anything unless light is available. Why should we stumble on the way?

"But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him - Jn. 11:10."

One of the functions of the lights (the greater and the lesser) in the scripture is to be a sign for differentiating times and seasons. However, such light needs the presence of darkness to an extent to make the observation clearer. For instance, the greater light signifies the sun while the lesser is taken to mean the moon. Though scientists prove that moon does not have light but that it reflects the rays from the sun. Whether by reflection, refraction or deflection, whatever the case may be, we are sure that there are occasions when we are guided and led by the light shone by or through the moon for which we are able to mark day and night thereby. According to the scripture, Moon has light. At least, God gives light to it.

However, the major function and importance of light is what we are to consider today, that is, vision, manifestation or revelation. It is to the revealing effect of light we shall trust God to open our heart. In the text above we see that light is need for manifestation. The manifestation in this case is synonymous to being able to see things clearly. It can also be compared to what aids vision – making one to see appropriately.

By light, one can be able to make accurate judgement between right and wrong. Light gives us the sense of difference when considering two sides or options. In the parable of the lost coin which the Lord Jesus Christ told, the woman who lost the coin had to light a candle to search for it. Surely, she found it. How and why? The light which the candle produced was able to help her speed up the process of discovery and recovery of the coin.

When God was giving His word unto prophet Isaiah, He said –

“And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel – Isaiah 45:3.”
Of a truth, you should have known that when God promises to give treasures of darkness, He will do so by first giving such a person the light required to make those treasures manifest.

Therefore, as touching children of God, this is what our Father has called us to be in this world. The world is in darkness. In fact, the whole world is in gross darkness. Why? It is because we are told that the whole world lies in wickedness – 1Jn 5:19. How does wickedness operate? By the words of Christ, we know that the operation of wickedness is through darkness – “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil – Jn. 3:19.”

We are to be shining light in this world. As far as the word of God is concerned, the world, like the people of Nineveh, does not know their right from left. If you say they know, I must tell you, the sense of judgement of the world is corrupt and perverted. There is need for shining light to come so as to reproved all things. Take heed lest the light in you become darkness. For if it be so, how great shall the darkness be!
