THE TIME CALLED NOW
“For He saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation – 2Corinthians 6:2.”
Time is passing, so are men with it. One generation comes and another goes but let not any man think the earth shall be forever. There is nothing that will last forever. There is end to everything. All things have their end. Think about your end brother. What shall your end be sister. O ye fathers, should you be put on the scale, what do you measure? And as for you mothers, what do you weigh on the scale of God? You know that you aren’t going to be on this earth forever. Yes, by now you are sure of that. So, before you begin to consider what would happen later, NOW is the time for you to do the examination. Examine yourself whether ye be in the faith.
By the reason of our text today, we shall divide time into
three parts – THEN, NOW and LATER. What we refer to as “then” is the past.
While the “later” happens to be the future. The “now” is the present. We aren’t
talking about yesterday, today and tomorrow. Those ones are too long for us to
consider. Using the minutest unit of measurement, even today can be divided
into the three forms we mentioned earlier. In today, five minutes ago can be
said to be “past or then.” Likewise, the next ten minutes may be considered as
"future or later." So, it is the now in today we are referring to.
Under the time called now, it is the time of salvation we need to focus upon.
Beloved, do not let the time of “now” of your salvation pass
you by. The writer made us to understand that there is a time which is
accepted. There is a time even in the day of salvation that is accepted. What
does that mean, it means in the same day of salvation, two major things happen
and they both have their duration or time allotted to each. In the day of
salvation, there is a time accepted and there is another time for judgement
(not accepted or no remedy). In the day the Lord saved Lot, it was the same day
He rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah. Now is the accepted time.
Yes, as you are reading this now. The accepted time is now, I cannot guarantee
what is to happen to you in the next two minutes. I know you are saying whether
I know what will happen or not, what you know is that “all things work together
for good, right?” Why have you decided to stop there, sir? Well, since you have
decided to stop there, let me complete it for you – “…to them that love God, to
them who are the called according to His purpose.”
First do you love God? Second, are you called by Him? Third,
are you doing His purpose? If your answer to any of these questions is “NO”,
don’t be deceived, I have to tell you the truth. All things are not working
together for your good. In fact, nothing will work for your good rather it will
be for your destruction. It is neither a curse nor prayer. It is established.
Saying “Amen” or not does not change it. The change can only come if you
acknowledge the time you are in now – that is, the time called NOW. Now being
the accepted time. The time to be saved from the wrath to come.
This is the time God has decided to hear and save thee.
Whatever you do, let not this time pass without you coming to the Saviour now.
Those who postponed their time of salvation did not live to tell the end of the
story. Yes, you have been hearing the gospel of salvation which is able to save
you and give you an inheritance but your obstinacy and stubbornness do not have
rival. Ha, O man, know ye not that the wrath of God abideth on you. Behold the
goodness and severity of God. Goodness if you believe in Christ Jesus now being
the accepted time but severity if you procrastinate saying “let me indulge in
this iniquity a little, at a convenient time I will come.” Sir, the convenient
time may or will never come. Sister, there is no convenient time to come other
than now. This is why it is called the accepted time. And it is now. If you do
not come now, I do not guarantee you will come later. Now is the time of your
salvation. Repent and be saved.
