AGREEMENT


“Can two walk together, except they be agreed? – Amos 3:3.”

 

Agreement is a powerful tool that can either be used constructively or destructively. While agreement with God and His people is constructive, that which is done with the devil and his agents is destructive. In agreement, God created man in His image and likeness – “Let us create man…” In agreement, men gathered themselves together to build a tower whose height would reach heaven. Even God had to bear them witness that –

“…Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do – Genesis 11:6.”

 

In ancient times, small nations would join league together to topple a larger and tyrannical nation to whom they brought tributes at former times. This was what happened when five nations joined together to war against Sodom and Gomorrah and other nations –

“And it came to pass in the days of Amraphel king of Shinar, Arioch king of Ellasar, Chedorlaomer king of Elam, and Tidal king of nations; That these made war with Bera king of Sodom, and with Birsha king of Gomorrah, Shinab king of Admah, and Shemeber king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela, which is Zoar. All these were joined together in the vale of Siddim, which is the salt sea – Gen. 14:1-3.”
They knew the force and potency of and in agreement. Partnership as a business term didn't start today.

 

When soldiers were to go to war against enemies’ territory, they often made sure they were in agreement. A little disagreement can weaken the hands of other soldiers in battle thereby causing an unimaginable havoc. God would not allow all the thirty-two thousand soldiers to follow Gideon because twenty-two were afraid and even the nine thousand seven hundred soldiers remaining were not in tune with the Master’s will. Ahab asked for the support of Jehoshaphat –

“And he said unto Jehoshaphat, Wilt thou go with me to battle to Ramothgilead?... – 1Kgs. 22:4.”
Jonathan also needed the agreement of his armourbearer –
“And Jonathan said to the young man that bare his armour, Come, and let us go over unto the garrison of these uncircumcised:… - 1Sam. 14:6.”

 

The Lord Jesus Christ gave the believers the authority they have in doing things in common and in agreement by saying –

“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven – Matt. 18:19.”
The apostles experienced the wonders of God by receiving the Holy Spirit when they were in agreement –
“…they were all with one accord in one place – Acts. 2:1.”
 More so, after the baptism of the Holy Ghost, the bond and cord of the agreement became stronger not weaker. They did all things in common –
“And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers… And all that believed were together, and had all things common – Acts. 2:42,44.”

 

If the case of man to man be such as this in agreement, how pleasant and sweet would it be when a man is in agreement with God. What can stand on the way of the man who is in agreement with God? I tell you the truth, if it be a wall, it shall be broken into pieces. Should it be a river or mighty ocean, it shall draw back and dry up.

 

Worse still, there are people who are in agreement with the adversary and enemy of their whole spirit, soul and body. They are joining their lots with the devil whose aim is to destroy them. Listen, Satan does not leave his captives to go scot-free unless he kills and destroys them. Don’t agree with the devil he does not mean well for you.

 

Therefore, what concord and agreement does Christ have with Belial? What part does Jesus have with an infidel? What agreement does the temple of God have with idols? Flee from this. Rebuke the work of darkness. Flee to God. Agree with God quickly now while you have your being.
