HOLINESS PAYS

“And ye shall be holy unto Me: for I the LORD Am holy, and have severed you from other people, that ye should be Mine – Leviticus 20:26.”

 

It is a known fact that to be holy is seen as something that has no worth among the worldlings. We cannot blame them because it is not good to cast holy things before dogs. Among many people in the world, the word holiness sounds worthless, old-school and without any benefit. Some even viewed it as a bitter life and difficult lifestyle. There are people who hate the word with everything it stands for. In all these, be ye known unto you and do not be discouraged if you are found to be among the few who believe that God has a plan for approving holiness. Be of good cheer, those who are holy aren’t so for nought. There are some benefits which God has planned for those who keep their clothes white. Did we say some benefits? We mean to say there are innumerable benefits and rewards which God has for those who live holy according to the grace of Christ Jesus at work in their lives.

 

Let’s cite some people in the scripture whose life of holiness showed that it is not in vain to keep to God’s commandment.

 

Samuel is one by the example. Hear what he said –

“Behold, here I am: witness against me before the LORD, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you – 1Sam. 12:3.”
When the people responded, they said – “Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken ought of any man's hand.” When this man called on God, he received quick and speedy answer to his prayers. About this man we have that –
“And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground – 1Sam. 3:19.”
 Christian, keep on being holy. It is God's wisdom for you to answered prayers.

 

We have Daniel also. The rulers in Babylon conspired against him. He was without fault –

“Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him – Dan. 6:4.”
Concerning the matter they accused him of to the king, he was guiltless. When they threw him into the lions’ den, they Lord delivered him –
“My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt – Dan. 6:22.”
 So far, we have mentioned two benefits. First, answer to prayers and the second is deliverance. God hearkens to the word of His holy people. He also delivers them as it is written –
“many are the afflictions of the righteous but the Lord delivers him from them all – Ps. 34:19”

 

The third and the final one for now is the benefit of eternal life and resurrection. God will not suffer His holy one to see corruption. Christ Jesus, the perfect example from God for us, came into the world to save sinners and by His death and resurrection we were delivered from the power of death. So far death could not hold Him captive, it behooves God to set Him as a model to all His children to overcome death. Anyone in whom the Holy Spirit dwells is enabled to live holy. By so doing, the scripture shall be fulfilled saying –

“For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption – Ps. 16:10.”

 

Therefore, anyone who is saying that the Christians are the most wretched of all creatures because of holiness and all other things they denied themselves of, such a person does not know the eternal weight of glory awaiting the righteous in Christ. In this world they shall have hundredfold and more in deliverance and honour and in the kingdom of God, eternal life.
