LOVE GOD

“Whom have I in heaven but Thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside Thee – Psalms 73:25.”

Not many people can say there is none in heaven or on earth they desire, want or need than God. as for Samson, he couldn’t say he had no other person he devoted his times strength, power, desire and will for other than God. If he should say that, then the likes of Delilah should stand against him. Solomon cannot speak about this because he loved strange women too. At one point in his life, he desired another person or thing apart from God.

People like Gehazi cannot make this confession. Was it not for the change of raiment and silver that he forsook the instruction and guidance of his master? Let the Achan be informed that there was something else they committed themselves to – not God. They sought for the accursed things.

There are men who loved their father and mothers, brothers, and sisters, things and possessions more than God. They are not like the Abrahams. What did Jesus Christ say concerning those people –

“He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me – Matt. 10:37.”
Examine yourselves and know those people and things you love more than God.

Listen, Jesus called some people to follow Him, what was their excuse? They said

“…But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father – Lk. 9:59.”
This is to tell us that there is an object of their love. Jesus had to tell them –
“…Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God – Lk. 9:60.”
What is your quest for and in the kingdom of God? it is by this your love for Him will be weighed, tested and examined. Do you love God?

Furthermore, the Lord Jesus also said to some to follow Him but what did they say? They said “…but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house – Lk. 9:61.” Finally, the Lord Jesus Christ had to tell us all that

“…No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God – Lk. 9:62.”
This is to tell us that our love for God is not to be shared with anyone. God demands, deserves and requires our all in loving Him also.

God will still come your way if you are an Abraham to know whether you love your Isaac more than Him. What is your love for God? The Lord Jesus ChrIst would still get to the Peters asking to weigh their love for God that “Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou Me?”

One of the ways to show that we love God is to obey Him. To keep His commandment. Jesus said –

“If ye love me, keep my commandments – Jn. 14:15.”
Another way to show the love for God or labour of love is by sacrifice as He said –
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends – Jn. 15:13.”

Finally, to remain in loving God and to grow in that same love for God is solely built and anchored upon knowing what Jesus Christ did for us because He loved us. First, He died for us. Second, while we were yet sinners, Christ came when we didn’t have strength. And the last point that must be with us to show forth our love for Him is –

“We love him, because he first loved us – Jn. 4:19.”
It is an offence to be loved and not to love in return. It is punishable under the law of God –
“Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life – Jude 1:21.”
KEEP YOURSELF IN THE LOVE OF GOD SO THAT GOD WILL ALSO KEEP YOU –
“Now unto Him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy – Jude 1:24.”
