WATCH YOUR MOUTH
“For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body – James 3:2.”
There are many things we have been advised, admonished and told to keep diligently, to guard cautiously and to protect passionately. We have the heart –
“Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life – Pro. 4:23.”We are told to be careful with what we look upon –
“I made a covenant with mine eyes; why then should I think upon a maid? – Job. 31:1”Also, in the words of our Lord Jesus Christ –
“…That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart – Matthew 5:28.”
There are instances we are instructed to keep and guard our steps and feet too –
“Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil – Ecc. 5:1.”It is not just because of the house of the Lord here but for those whose feet are swift to shed blood –
“Their feet are swift to shed blood – Rom. 3:15.”
I believe invariably
what God intends for us is to keep our whole body under His governance. It is
not just about the ear, nose, heart or feet alone. Nevertheless, we shall
consider one part we need to take heed and set a watch upon it.
Many soldiers know how
to watch at their posts but they know not how to set a watch upon their mouth.
There are many security agents who can guard for the safety of the lives and
properties of people but their own mouth is left loosed, unguarded and
unguided.
Mr. Man, watch your
mouth. Consider what you speak and what you utter. Consider the words
proceeding from your mouth. Oh, that your tongue will be sanctified. Do your
words minister grace to the hearers? Are you a person that after speaking the
people can say my faith has been strengthened or you are that fellow whose
words break the bones?
When was the last time
your words deterred and discouraged a hopeless man from committing suicide? Or
is it that yours is even to dry up the little hope another brother is trying to
preserve. Watch your mouth I beseech you.
You know why? I fear Jesus Christ when He speaks. And you must do the same too. Fear Him. Why? It is because He does not joke. He does not speak anyhow. If He says “dry”, instantly it is done. When He says, “Live”, life comes instantly. It is important to listen, hearken and to know all those things He told us one of which is –
“But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment – Matt. 12:36.”
Now, when Christ Jesus shall lay us to the scale and balances of judgement as touching the matter of our mouth, how do we fair? On a scale of ten, what do you weigh. Mind you, before you begin to have false measure of and about yourself, it is my duty this day to remind you that –
“A false balance is abomination to the LORD: but a just weight is his delight – Pro. 11:1.”And before you begin to commend yourself on this matter, let me sound an alarm to your hearing concerning what The Lord Jesus Christ had said –
“And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God - Lk. 16:15.”
Oh ye careless and
unruly speakers and talkers, consider this – “by your words you shall be
condemned.” Oh forget not this as well that – “by your words you shall be
justified.” Come to Jesus, He has the write word for you and if you want Him to
fill you with the right words so you do not curse with you mouth, He is able.
