TO SERVE

Image
“Issachar is a strong ass couching down between two burdens – Genesis 49:14.” Service today is seen as a heinous word. Most people often tag service with the word “suffering.” The real meaning of service is to serve and to serve is either to do what people can or cannot do for themselves. To serve can also be said to work for someone in exchange for something valuable and precious which will worth the wait, the time, the resources and energy used. To serve can also be said to be in a position of assisting someone who appears to be a superior or master with the intention of gaining knowledge and becoming like that master someday – “ It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord… – Matt. 10:25 .” Using the word of our Master, Lord Jesus Christ, to serve means to minister. One word commonly used for those that serve is servant. And each time we hear the word servant, we feel like that purpose is an inferior person. Again, when the word serva...

OUR GUIDE

Image
“For this God is our God for ever and ever: HE will be OUR GUIDE even unto death – Psalms 48:14.” Mountain climbers or mountaineers are people who take adventurous steps. They take pleasure in scouting for mountains. The love they have for what they do is a passion they are driven by. Some of them might have been doing this for historical purpose. Others could have been doing it for archaeological reasons. Still, among these men or women, you might be able to have few who are involved in this adventure for the sole reason of discovery. Whatever reasons they all have to initiate and accomplish this feat, there is something that is common to them all.And the common thing with them is THEIR GUIDE. They dare not go ahead to get this thing done without their guide. They dare not climb to heights without their guide. It is on this guide we shall trust God to help us apply this to ourselves believing that He will not leave us to ourselves but impact upon us the eternal truth in His word. ...

THE SURE ABODE

Image
“Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in Me – John 15:4.”   Jesus Christ is the Truth. He is the sure abode. Let us abide in truth. It pays to abide in truth. There are reasons for this. Just as we have said that Jesus is the truth, we shall refer to truth in the context as a person and not just a thing, feeling or emotion.   Truth gives light to overcome and to walk in darkness. Truth gives light. So, any man living in truth is dwelling in light. Truth saves from deception and its effects. Many a mighty man have been made to lose their strength by the reason of deceit and flattery. As for truth, He preserves strength.   Truth comes with a standard of assurance as touching knowledge. It is not all kinds of knowledge that is power or beneficial. The knowledge based on truth is the powerful one. Truth gives a dimension of boldness to those who abide and walk in it. those who...

THE NECESSITIES OF WORK

Image
“Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work – Exodus 20:9.”   In a world where work is seen as a curse or a taboo. Perhaps it is because of what many people have taken out of context concerning what God said that – “…Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life – Gen, 3:17.” Most people believe we shouldn’t be working if not because of the sin of man and the curse that came as the effect. That is not true. Work was ordained even before the fall and the sin of man. We can say with God, work opened the beginning chapter of the Bible – “…God created…” The word “created” connotes work. Moreso, when God created man, the charge He gave him was – “…for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground – Gen. 2:5.” So, one of the purposes God created man was to till the ground. Tilling in this case describes work.   In a world and century wher...

JUDGEMENT IS HERE

Image
“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? – 1Peter 4:17.”   Finally, it is here. Yes, the time of judgement is here. Every work of the wicked shall receive just judgement and recompense of reward. The valleys shall be filled up and the mountains shall be levelled. The proud look shall be humbled and abased. The haughty man shall groan in shame and the high look of the daughters of zion shall be contemned. Woe to those who love not the Lord Jesus Christ for the shall forever remain Anathema Maranatha.   Sinners come; this is your end. As it was proclaimed and prophesied by the servants of God over the years and centuries. They piped but you would not dance. The played but you didn’t bulge at all neither did you move your body. The sounded the alarm on top of the mountain yet none gave attention. They blew the trumpet, you heard but you despised an...

THOU CHRISTIAN

Image
“And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me – Daniel 10:19.”   Christians are children of God. They are commonly called Christ-like. This name is a weighty name. It is not encouraging when you here people ask are you are Christian? I mean born-again child of God? As if the name Christian is not enough or born again is not enough or child of God is not enough. Some would even say a genuine Christian. We can not really blame the world for asking such preposterous question. Isn’t it? It is because many are just Christian by name and not character. Millions or billions of people in the world who claim to be Christians are so by official or political way of affiliating to one religion or the other. Are you a Christian? Not by church or any denominational mode of conduct and worship. Are you a Christian? This topic might ...

JESUS TEACHES

Image
“Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls – Matthew 11:29.”   Jesus Christ is a Teacher. Not just a teacher but The Teacher. At least by known it is known to us in scripture that people came to Him to hear Him speak. Prominent about those who came to Him was a master in Israel called Nicodemus. Reading through that portion in the scripture, that John chapter three where Jesus Christ referred to Nicodemus as a master in Israel, it struck me to look closely as though Jesus meant to say, “the man had master in science in things pertaining to Israel worship, laws, geography and the likes…”.   Yet it was this man who said of Jesus Christ that – “…Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him – Jn. 3:2.” From here, we can infer to say Christ Jesus was Master of masters and Teacher of teachers. As a matter of truth, H...

PROMOTION OF FOOLS

Image
“Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted - Psalms 107 : 17.”   Who is a fool?   We shall consider different definitions and descriptions given to foolish people. It is not time to be finding faults or blaming anyone. Let every man bear his own yoke. We all must see ourselves in the light of the scripture before making final conclusion about any situation. In the Bible, there are many signs, methods, appearances and forms by which foolishness is expressed. These are what we are going to consider critically today. Let every man consider himself according as it is written to know where he falls.   Now, who is a fool?   A fool is a man who sleeps with his sister or who has intention of doing so – 2Sam. 13:11-13. A fool is anyone who harbour hatred and envy against his neighbour or brother with the intention of killing or harming him or her – 1Sam. 26:21. Are you? He is a person who says in his heart (he do...

WHEN SPEED MATTERS

Image
"I made haste, and delayed not to keep thy commandments - Psalms 119 : 60."   Everything creates by God has its own pace and order. To every creature is given the means and ability enhancing movement. This movement cuts across all areas of life such as growth, digestion, breath (respiration), reproduction etc. That's concerning the health. When issues of life such as success, failure, promotion, demotion, life and death are put into consideration, the rate at which movement takes place cannot be overlooked. This is what we refer to as speed. The rate at which movement takes place cam be referred to as speed.   All things whether small or great, in heaven or on Earth have speed. The speed in doing good or evil, speed to obey God or disobey Him. Speed to follow the devil or execute his purpose. The question is to whom have we been given our speed and on what are we expending our swift response?   As for the man in our text today, his own speed is to keep the commandments of...

DIRECTED BY MONEY

Image
“But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD – Jonah 1:2.”   Everyone is familiar with money. No one can say he or she does not know what money is. Oh, that the kingdom of God would be this popular and known and even more. Money has been a means of exchange, the medium of purchase or its power, the currency used in the market to get possession. Truly, the subject of money is discussed more in the bible only second to the Kingdom of God. but as we speak, money has even taken over that spot in the heart of many men in the world.   From the beginning, the matter of money wasn’t on the top of the list but after certain period of time we see that even Abraham had to purchase a burying place with money. In the time of famine, people came to Egypt to buy foods with mon...

MAN'S HELPLESSNESS

Image
“And he said, If the LORD do not help thee, whence shall I help thee? out of the barnfloor, or out of the winepress? – 2Kings 6:27.”   There are many instances and references in the scripture that are drawing our attention to know the frailty and weakness in man. The text above seems to be one of them. Men, on the surface level, love to show off as the “all-sufficient.” In his form, man would always like to be like the Laodicean Church who said – “…I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing… - Rev. 3:17.” You must have been hearing slogans and statements like “Do It Yourself,” “Empower yourself,” “Self Sufficiency,” “Financial Independent,” “Financial Freedom” and so on. Haven’t you? Most of these agendas are targeted towards enthroning one candidate in man called “self.” The medium through which this candidate gains expression or expresses itself is called flesh. Man, O man.   Come, people chosen from the foundation of the world to hear the ...

PROSPEROUS CITY

Image
“Cry yet, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; My cities through prosperity shall yet be spread abroad; and the LORD shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem – Zechariah 1:17.”   Prosperity is the song the world sings in this age. The countries round about us are flaunting their “what they call” riches. We have nations to which the title of “world power” is attributed. You know why? It is majorly because of economic factors. When you begin to rate the GDP, GNP and standard of living of these nations, one would begin to think them to be prosperous.   Ha! Come let us look into their streets and see how prosperous they are. See how their young men and teens are being slain by drugs and other forms of hard and soft substances. The old aren’t too much into drug but they are full of covetousness and eyes of lusts which cannot be satisfied. Their young ladies are daughters of whoredom and offspring of immoralities. Yet these nations are seen to be prospe...

BE INSTANT

Image
“Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine – 2Timothy 4:2.”   The prophet Isaiah said – “For Zion's sake will I not hold my peace, and for Jerusalem's sake I will not rest, until the righteousness thereof go forth as brightness, and the salvation thereof as a lamp that burneth – Isaiah 62:1.” As for us, let it be for souls’ sake, for righteousness’ sake, for the kingdom’s sake, for God’s Name’s sake. The prophet said he would not hold is peace because of his country until righteousness should begin to flow down like a river. His earnest desire was to see salvation become a burning lamp through which the people are given light to see and walk.   Let ours be the same. See what great number of souls perish daily. For their sake, let us be instant in season. See what great multitudes are running headlong into perdition on per second basis and billing! What an earnest call upon us to rush into t...

BE KIND

“And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise – Luke 10:37.”   The heart and nature of the humankind, right from the time he disobeyed God, has been plagued with wickedness, violence and evil imagination. Words like pity, compassion, love, care, unity and peace are not within his radar. Why would Cain kill Abel or what could have generated into the slavery of Joseph? The summary of this is given as a question – “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? – Jer. 17:9.”   Do you know or have you asked what could have been the purpose God gave His law to Noah, unto Moses and as many that were called are going to be called by Him? Well, if we do not understand or know the whole purpose, counsel or reason behind His decision of giving such commandments, there is one reason we are to be certain and sure of, that is, to be kind to one another.   Beginning with the law He gave to No...
